General Play & Group Instances

We all like to play the game… that’s what we’re here for, right? As far as the guild and its members are concerned, there are a few things to take note of.

Questing and Leveling
We all do this at some point, be it with our alts or even our main as expansion packs are released. If you’re stuck on a quest, there is likely someone in the guild that has done it and can give you advice, so feel free to ask! However, as stated in the conduct rules, do not beg for them to come help you. Ask, and if someone is generous enough to come help, then great, otherwise just realize that people are busy with their own thing sometimes.

5-man Dungeons
Dungeons are great! For the most part, we do not officially schedule 5-man dungeon runs. There are special cases for this, as referenced later in this document. Dungeons are generally done ad hoc among members of the guild. Anyone can start and assemble a dungeon group. Just don’t be disappointed if it fills up faster than you can say “I’ll go”. They are generally first come first serve.

Also be aware that sometimes dungeon adventures are planned outside of the game. People could be talking through Facebook or IM saying “Hey we should do Forge of Souls tonight!” This is a pre-assembled group. There is no reason to feel ousted if you were not asked or it wasn’t announced in guild chat that the group was assembling. It’s just friends making plans together, in game, or not.

The exception to scheduling is for special dungeons and low level dungeons. For example, when Halloween comes around, we can schedule runs to Scarlet Monastery to kill the Horseman. Likewise, if you’re having trouble getting a group together for a sub-80 dungeon, put it on the calendar and see if anyone signs up to help. This is equivalent to asking for help and it may or may not be successful. Just try not to take it personally if the plan falls through. Anyone in the guild can put and event on the calendar.

The Dungeon Finder
This was implemented with Patch 3.3 and is great for managing 5-mans. We utilize this because it has several benefits:

* Instant teleporting to / from the dungeon
* 2 Bonus Emblems of Triumph for running a random dungeon
* 2 Bonus Emblems of Frost for running your first random dungeon of the day
* If you have less than 5 people in your group, it will supply you with random people to fill the group. This has pros and cons depending on how you feel about strangers in the group.
* Automatically selects dungeons based on a gear of the members in the group. This also has pros and cons, see the warning below.

Given those benefits, we usually start a group, and then use the dungeon finder to pick a random dungeon. We teleport to it, beat it; and use the dungeon finder again to pick another random. Often the same group will continue through multiple random dungeons in one evening. Emblems come quickly this way, and there is absolutely no travel time between dungeons due to the handy teleport option.

To use the Dungeon Finder, the party leader types /df to start the dungeon finder. Also, you can bring it up by pressing I (assuming you haven’t remapped keys) . There’s also a “green eye” looking button that will open the Dungeon Finder as well. Once the dungeon finder is open, set it to Random Lich King Heroic and then hit Join as Party. The other party members will see a pop up box where they can select their role in the group, Tank, DPS or Healer, or multiple select if you can fill multiple roles.

Once everyone has selected their roles, the dungeon finder will pick a random dungeon. Hit the Enter Dungeon button in the window that pops up to get teleported directly into the instance.

Warning: Once you enter the dungeon, make sure that it is set to heroic (it will say in your chat log as well as show a “Skull flag” icon on your mini map). We’ve had instances before where someone in the group didn’t have enough gear to do heroics, and the system silently switched us to be in a normal instance instead of a heroic.

Looting in 5-mans
Unless otherwise decided upon in the group, you may roll Greed (the coin button) on any item drops. If you actually need and would use the item, you should roll Need (the dice button). Also, if there is a disenchanter in the group, instead of rolling Greed, you can opt to roll Greed for Disenchant. This roll is the same as a Greed roll, except that if you win, you get the disenchanted shard / dust / crystal immediately instead of the item. If you’d rather just sell the item itself, roll Greed. There is no set rule on whether to roll greed or greed for disenchant. You can safely mix and match those rolls in the group.

Raiding
Raiding is always scheduled. To raid you must be level 80, unless we are doing a classic raid that supports sub-80 characters. See the Silent Strike Raider’s Handbook for info on raiding.
