The coming Cataclysm is getting closer. Now we must defend our capital cities of Stormwind and Ironforge (Thunder Bluff & Orgrimmar for Horde) from regular invasions by Elementals. Rifts appear to be opening approximately every 2 hours and 2 types of elementals spawn in each city (Water & Air in Stormwind and Fire & Earth in Ironforge). The rift events involve placing sandbag barriers, and then fighting elementals to close the rifts they create and rescuing citizens from the rifts. If we successfully defend the city, new Elite bosses dropping ilevel 251 gear become available (4 bosses total). The boss fights are available via the Looking-For-Dungeon tool for 30 minutes after the defeat of the rifts. Defeating all 4 types of rifts awards an Achievement – Tripping the Rifts.
Patch 4.0.3 went live today and includes almost all of the information for the coming Cataclysm. Patch notes are available HERE . While all we’ll really see is bug fixes for now, this patch will enable Deathwing to start wrecking the world with abandon once he arrives. There will be one more patch before Cataclysm release, Patch 4.0.3a, which will in effect create the Sundering of Azeroth and the end of the world as we know it.
The game developers promised to “blow our minds” with the lead up to Cataclysm. The elemental invasions have certainly raised the excitement level. I can’t wait to see what is yet to come!
